CAO DAI RELIGION PRESENTED AT THE INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL CONFERENCE AT DHAKA UNIVERSITY, BANGLADESH.

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., on September 29, 2024, the Faculty of World Religions and Cultures, Dhaka University, Bangladesh, organized an online International Conference with the theme, “RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY AND MULTICULTURALISM FOR SUSTAINABLE PEACE”.
 
The Head of the Organizing Committee and Chair of this Conference is Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam - Chairman - Department of World Religions and Cultures, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
 
Guests of honor attending the Conference include:
 
1. Professor Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam - Founder and Former Chairman, Department of World Religions and Cultures,  University of Dhaka. 
2. Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan – Dean – Faculty of Arts, University of Dhaka.
3. Professor Dr. Md. Abu Sayem – Department of World Religions and Cultures, University of Dhaka.
 
The conference was attended by about 30 professors, scholars, religious researchers and students from Korea, Taiwan, the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, India and Bangladesh.
 
A total of 14 presentations were divided into 3 presentation topics:
  1. Southeast and East Asian Religions;
  2. Comparative Philosophy and Religious Pluralism;
  3. Politics, Society and Religion.
 
The presentation on Cao Dai was delivered by Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, chaired by PhD candidate Nguyen Tuan Em (National Chengchi University, Taiwan) with the topic “Inclusive Practices in Dao Cao Dai and Oomoto-Kyo: A Comparative Study”.
 
In this presentation, Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam highlighted the long-standing relationship between Cao Dai and Oomoto, as well as the similar activities in creating a peaceful society and serving society between Cao Dai and Oomoto, Japan.
 
Each presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session and in-depth explanation of the research content, attracting much attention from the attending scholars.
 
Again, please note that:
 
1. Professor Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam – Former Chairman – Department of World Religions and Cultures was the one who introduced the subject “Cao Dai Religious Tradition” into the regular curriculum for Dhaka University students in the 2005-2006 academic year, at the request of the President of Bangladesh - Iajuddin Ahmed, after the visit and presentation on Cao Dai by the missionary delegation led by then Mr. Tran Quang Canh.

2. Professor Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, currently Chairman of the Department of World Religions and Cultures, University of Dhaka, was awarded a scholarship by the Cao Dai Overseas Missionary (initiated by Mr. Tran Quang Canh) to study Vietnamese and research Cao Dai from 2013 to 2015, and has continued to provide professional support to Professor  Dr. Alam to date. The religion subject has continued to be taught from 2005 to the present 2024.
